Happy Anniversary to the International Neuro Climate Working Group!
In April 2024, we launched the International Neuro Climate Working Group with a bold vision: to unite researchers, clinicians, public health experts, and policymakers around a shared mission: to better understand and address the impact of climate change on brain health.
Brain health remains one of the most critical yet underrecognized dimensions of the climate crisis. While efforts to address this intersection were underway around the globe, they were often happening in isolation. We saw an urgent need to bring this work together across disciplines, sectors, and borders to accelerate both understanding and action.
Today, we are proud to reflect on what our growing community has achieved in just one year:
🌍 Our network has grown from a dedicated group of 40 to more than 180 members across 40 countries and continues to expand.
🧠 We’ve cultivated a truly interdisciplinary collaboration, spanning neuroscience, climate science, public health, psychology, epidemiology, sociology, economics, architecture, and more.
📖 Our upcoming “State of the Science” report, the most comprehensive synthesis to date on climate change’s effects on mental and neurological health, will soon be available to the public.
🌐 We’ve co-developed over five global research projects, contributed to dozens of peer-reviewed publications, and brought this critical issue to major platforms including the United Nations General Assembly, COP, WHO global conferences, and more.
🎓 Our webinars and training materials have reached thousands of healthcare professionals and students worldwide.
🗞️ Our work has been featured in prominent outlets such as The Guardian, Bloomberg, CBC, ABC Australia, Dubai Eye, and others.
🤝 We’ve forged meaningful partnerships with over 10 leading organizations, including the Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education and the Global Brain Health Institute.
These milestones reflect not just our collective output, but the spirit that defines our group: one of generosity, collaboration, humility, and a deep commitment to planetary and human health.
We are profoundly grateful to every member of this community. Your insight, dedication, and shared vision are what make this group truly one of a kind.
As we look ahead to our second year, we welcome new collaborators who are passionate about advancing research, education, and policy at the intersection of climate and brain health. If this speaks to your work or your aspirations, we warmly invite you to join us.
Here’s to another year of connection, courage, and action.
